How a phone QR code works
The code stores the number in a tel: URI. On a compatible phone, scanning usually offers to open the dialer with that number. The user remains in control: scanning does not automatically place a call.
Format numbers for the audience
QR Code Fairy accepts 3–15 digits, common visual separators, and an optional leading plus sign. It removes spaces, parentheses, periods, and hyphens from the encoded number. For audiences in more than one country, include the international country code, such as +1 or +44.
Extensions are not supported because dialer handling varies. Put extension instructions in nearby visible text instead.
Use and test it responsibly
Phone codes suit appointment cards, service desks, property signs, and support materials. Print the number beside the code as an accessible fallback. Test on devices your audience is likely to use; desktops and devices without calling support may only display or copy the number.
If you want to prefill a written message, use the SMS QR code generator.
