Text stored inside the code
A plain-text QR code contains the characters you enter, including line breaks. It does not point to a webpage, so a reader can display the message without visiting an online destination. That makes it useful for short instructions, reference numbers, equipment notes, or information needed where connectivity may be limited.
What happens after scanning
Most compatible readers show the decoded text and may offer actions such as copying or sharing it. The exact controls depend on the device and scanning app; plain text does not instruct a device to open a particular application.
Useful examples include a short setup instruction, a pickup code, a room label, or a brief multilingual note. Do not put secrets in a code: anyone who can scan or decode the image can read its contents.
Keep longer text practical
More bytes require a denser QR pattern. Non-ASCII characters can use more than one byte, and higher error correction can increase density further. QR Code Fairy limits the encoded payload to 2,000 bytes, but shorter content is generally easier to reproduce and scan at modest sizes.
If your information is long or changes regularly, a maintained webpage and the URL QR code generator may be a better fit.
