Prefill a text message
An SMS QR code stores a recipient number and, optionally, a message in an sms: payload. A compatible phone usually opens a messaging compose screen with those values filled in. The person scanning can review or edit the message; scanning does not send it.
Write for a compose screen
Use a country code when the code may be scanned internationally. Keep the suggested message short, recognizable, and appropriate for the recipient—for example, a request for event details or a simple service enquiry. QR Code Fairy supports one recipient and one optional message, not group recipients or media attachments.
Allow for app differences
Scanner and messaging apps do not all handle SMS payloads identically. Test the exported code on relevant iOS and Android devices, and confirm both the number and message appear correctly. Standard messaging charges and the recipient’s ability to receive SMS still apply.
For a voice-call action without a message, use the Phone QR code generator.
